Solar power

Solar power remains a very attractive option in the clean and renewable energy industry even though the cost makes it difficult for most people to make use of.

However, the cost of solar cells and modules are coming down due to advances in the manufacturing process and it is believed that the downward trend would continue to a long time to come.

Now, what worries me is that Nigeria with a reasonable sun hours statistics in any given day should be in the forefront of solar energy research as it stands to benefit immensely but nothing seems to be happening in this area.

Not only would a strong research or manufacture of solar energy related components and products provide jobs for our youth we could also export knowledge and products to neighboring countries and make extra money doing just that.

Currently, very very few individuals can boast of using solar panels to provide energy for their homes because the cost is usually too high especially when a lot of us are yet to come to terms with the many advantages of implementing a good energy efficiency program.

Majority (if not all) of the solar related projects in Nigeria are government owned or sponsored projects. I guess you now know why.
